This is a pleasant retreat along the river. The rooms are comfortable and well designed, each with a small patio or balcony. The breakfast was nice and the owners/hosts are great.

My wife and I chose The Anchorage as a half way stop between Knysna and Cape Town and were very pleased that we did. The rooms are very well presented and have everything one might need for self-catering. The bathrooms are very modern and clean and have both bath and shower. Sitting on the veranda at sunset, overlooking the river, was a very relaxing way to end the day. Our hosts were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was wonderful and a nearby restaurant was handy for evening meals. It would have been nice to have stayed longer. - David Barnes from Swansea

The Anchorage was a really wonderful little gem in Stilbaai. Wonderful setting, fantastic hosts and superb rooms. Everything was spotlessly clean and nothing was too much trouble for Annette and Craig. Will definitely be back next January. - Anonymous

My girlfriend and I really enjoyed our stay. Besides not bringing my surfboard, as the point was cooking, we managed to enjoy everything that was provided, from long walks on the edge of the water and good food in town. the fresh decor and friendly service add to the amazing experience. Peaceful and tranquil. A very chilled place.

My husband and I spent 5 nights at the Anchorage and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The accommodation was clean and spacious and the owners more than accommodating. We will definately be back to Stilbaai and The Anchorage and will happily recommend the place to our friends.

The silent, tranquil setting on the banks of the river with its beautiful views just added to the magic of our stay.

We thought this was an ideal location with excellent facilities for a quiet few days to relax and Stillbaai has plenty to offer, whether beach walking or birdwatching.

"Absolutely magic. We had high hopes before arrival and we were not disappointed. If you're looking for clubs and late-night bars then go elsewhere, but if you want pure tranquility and outstanding natural beauty then this is the place for you. Throw in their fantastic breakfast, breath-taking views and great hospitality and you get the idea that this is truly somewhere special.

Top tip: go to the harbour to buy freshly caught fish, and cook on bbq on your veranda while enjoying a glass of wine. Tough to beat.

Highlights: kayaking on the river 50m from your room (free use of their gear), surfing, playing with their lovely dogs...

Go stay there. You won't regret it."
